Laurent Doumont

LAURENT DOUMONT is a saxophone player, singer-songwriter from Brussels, mainly in the Soul Jazz idiom.

He was part of Daniel Romeo's band from 1999 to 2008. He also played for the entertaining show "Improsessions".

He is now co-directing and playing with bluesman Marc Lelangue in « The Heavy Muffulettas », a New Orleans rhythm's blues band.

As a free lance musician, he had the opportunity to play with artists such as Fred Wesley, Boney M, George Mc Crae, Percy Sledge and, on a very special evening, with James Brown.

But the most important part of his work has been and is made as a band leader. Since 1998, he is directing his own band featuring « la creme » of belgian musicians.
He has also paid tribute to Lou Donaldson and Horace Silver - two of his major soul-jazz influences - through the "Alligator Boogaloo" and the "Pieces of Silver" projects.

He released his first album « Soul Quintet » in 2001.
In 2012, his second personal album « Papa Soul Talkin » was released, produced by Daniel Romeo, with Vincent Bruyninckx, Sal La Rocca Lionel Beuvens and many great guests. In this record, Laurent reveals his various skills as a musician, singer, songwriter and arranger.

More Recently, he has put together a new jazz band, « Trio V.O » ,with Sal La Rocca (db) and Patrick Deltenre (g) in which he plays and sings American, French and Italian standards.

His latest project, « l'Americano » is an album of Italian standards from the 50's and 60's, deeply adapted in the soul-jazz spirit he cares for. Its release is expected for spring 2019. Vincent Bruyninckx (k), Lorenzo Di Maio (g);, Sam Gerstmans (b), Adrien Verderame (ds) and Nicolas Fiszman (prod) are involved in this work with him.
