Fred Hersch Trio + strings

For the first time, Fred Hersch is also coming to Leuven with his trio. With the new album Breath by Breath (Palmetto Records) under his arm, to be released early January 2022, he adds another masterpiece to his extensive oeuvre. A first single Worldly Wings has just been thrown out. Regular companion Drew Gress on bass and drummer Jochen Rueckert form the trio together with Fred. For this album, they worked together with the Crosby Street String Quartet. At Leuven Jazz, they will be accompanied by the young string players of the Desguin Quartet. This foursome from Antwerp, together with Trio Aries, won ‘Supernova 2020'. They also won the Audience Award. Since 2021, the Desguin Quartet has been a member of the International 'Le Dimore Del Quartetto' network. They have now released their debut album. A dream come true for Wolfram Van Mechelen (violin), Ludovic Bataillie (violin), Rhea Vanhellemont (viola) and Pieter-Jan De Smedt (cello).
