The Brussels born Gaëtan Casteels started playing the double bass at the age of 19, at the Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles. There he studied jazz with Jean-Louis Rassinsfosse and classical double bass with Christian Vanderbrorght and Eric Demesmaeker. He also lived in Spain for 5 years, where he studied with Horacio Fumero. Gaëtan also attended the master classes of Dave Holland, Christian McBride, George Garzone and especially Hein Van de Geyn.

We could hear him in jazzbands with Eve Beuvens, Jan De Haas, Daniel Stokart… He plays with the cuban pinaist Alejandro Vargas in Bozar and has toured with french songwriters (festivals de Mars en Chanson, Rallye de la Chanson Française…), in Switzerland (Genève, Bienne…), in France ( Paris, Avignon, Perpignan, Bordeaux…), in Italy, Andora and Spain. Gaëtan Casteels is now preparing the release in January 2022 of his album « album The Missing One(s) », with his Ozaín Quartet.

Gaëtan composes for his quartet, but has also made the music for the short movie « Haften » de Jannes de Leest and lately the music for the theater play « Rakanyak » of the Compagnie Charlie.
